Julian Hanford - Artist

About the Artist

Julian Hanford's work explores and questions the delicious ironies of the human condition and our relationship to the rest of the universe we inhabit.

Having worked previously as both a high-level Creative Director and a Commercials Film Director in the world of advertising, he understands first hand the social manipulations inherent in visual communications, and now chooses to actively subvert these techniques to expose their inner workings.

As a highly competent photographer, this medium tends to feature a lot in his work, but his intent is ultimately to become media neutral, so that the conceptual strands in his work take precedence over technique, which he passionately believes to be a more honest and democratic approach to art.

His influences include the surrealists, Man Ray and Rene Magritte in particular, Gilbert Garcin, Pop artists such as Jeff Koons & Andy Warhol, and modern ironicists including David Shrigley and Matt Collishaw.

He is currently working on a series of 3 dimensional installations, paintings and other conceptual pieces at his studio in Wimbledon, London UK.
